The „Neue Traunsteiner Hütte“ was built from 1936 to 1938. From the early 80s it has been renovated constantly and it‘s one of the most beautiful objects of the German Alpine Club. The hut is situated on the high plateau of the romantic Reiteralpe. It is one of the few alpine areas which is still not accessible by cars.
Every year after the snow has melted (about the beginning of June) you can experience how the mountain flowers and herbs spread like a sea across the area. Beside Enzian, Auricula, Alpine Rose and Arnica you can also find one of the highest populations of century-old pines in Germany, thus it’s a paradise for nature and plant lovers.
